LEZXY DOO IN A COME BACK BID

Former X-Appeal member, Lexzy Doo, who left the country for U.K about two years back, is currently plotting a come back. Having been away for a very long time, Lexzy will pick up his career from where he stopped.
In his last chat with this blog from his base in the U.K, he said he had a brand new single entitled Omo Ele, and that the video is currently showing on U Tube, a website that accommodates videos from different acts all over the world. Admitting that the game had really changed back home, he said he is now more matured musically and as such, Nigerians should expect a brand new Lexzy Doo.
The maturity he spoke about then is now evident in his new single titled For Show. The new single shows tremendous growth and a distinct air of maturity. He opted to rest the lyrical offerings on his own shoulders. Unlike his former vocal delivery, Lexzy has tremendously improved. The video of the new song was shot over there in the U.K with a good a story line depicting his rise from poverty to abundant riches. The song was well interpreted in the video with different scenes of bad days where he had to rely on menial jobs to earn a living as compared to his new status of a house owner with a posh ride to go with. The video resolution is also a very important factor to note. If well promoted, there is no doubt that the video will bring him more popularity both at home and abroad.
Speaking on the new single, he is full of thanks to God for the inspiration to write the song while condemning rumour mongers. “People have said so many bad things about me and my career. I just want to use this opportunity to thank God for his support and for putting the wicked people to shame”, he said.
Before he left the country, he had an album which included the hit single ‘Ske Ske’ that held the airwaves hostage for a long time. The song was produced by OJB Jezreel.
The group X-Appeal was then made up of Jazzman Olofin and Lexzy Doo before the duo broke up and went solo

ALBUM REVIEW, ARTISTE- JAYWON, TITLE- MEET JAYWONECORD LABEL- KENNIS MUSIC

As the saying goes, you have your whole life to make your first album because for many, it is a complete work of art, The Kennis Music act; Jaywon has finally released his debut album. His album is the 65th CD to be released on the Kennis Music label.
The 16 tracker album including two skits featured acts like African China, T.Code, Slizzy E, Terry G, Master Craft, Bubie Pulse, Timaya, Sheyman and Kenny Saint Brown with the production imprints of the likes of K-Solo, Terry G, Sheyman, Sage Quality, J-Sleek, Sucksy and Sunny ‘Master Kraft’ Nweke who produced most of the songs on the album.
Should we say one of the leading record labels has delivered another king of pop music in Nigeria after 2Face Idibia? It’s definitely not at the moment. With the level of investment in the young act since he got signed on to the label, one would be easily convinced that Kennis Music is poised to take the act international but Jaywon would definitely need to work with their rate-of-knots. The new album clearly reveals that the young act is still mastering his act and trying to find an identity by delivering most of his vocals in Yoruba language.
From his well promoted lead single; Filebe to his guest verses and recent leaks, it’s hard to avoid him, even with the new flock of talented young wordsmiths in the game. That being said, Jaywon’s debut album has been highly anticipated due to the hype by his record label. Kicking in the door with Meet Jaywon, he hopes to be everybody’s delight but it’s still to be determined if the new album is worthy of the hype generated by the label thus far.
Lyrically, he’s a blend of clever wit and skill while never losing his flow, an important trait that is displayed from the onset. With Pop culture references, humor and wordplay, Jukon and Bebe Nlo serve to set the plate for more substantive material like Dream where he speaks on his experiences and aspirations with additional vocals by Keke Ogungbe.
Guests are featured prominently on the album. Timaya shares the mic over K-Solo’s smooth instrumentation on Kowan Goloto and African China and T. Code add an unexpected flavor to Oya. Nothing short of brilliant is the assistance of Terry G, Sheyman and Kenny Saint Brown on a few hooks. King Shaka lends a Pop-friendly hand to the lead intro; Meet Jaywon. Other songs on the album are I’m Loyal, Mama, Praise, Afurumgi Nanya, Home Coming, Tinko Anel and Home Calling. It is however interesting to know that the album was well produced and mastered.
The album might not actually flow from start to finish with two or three tracks not striking the right cords, but with the concrete musical formation, his dulcet tone and tales of love, belonging and happiness, it is easy to understand that he will go far.
The full album comes at an interesting point when you find it very difficult to lay your hand on a CD of a solo artiste on Kennis Music. The lead off single, Filebe, secured crazy radio spins and the video remains in constant rotation on different TV stations till date not to mention his ego boosting award for Best New Video at the just concluded NMVA which actually gave him the much needed popularity.
Even if there are a handful of tracks that should’ve been shaved off, there’s nothing outright bad on Meet Jaywon album and a lot that is good. It probably might not be a standout in the overall catalogue of music albums but it is indeed a solid one nonetheless because his versatility is intact. It is literally a perfect example of a teenager becoming a man.

P-Square Celebrate Birthday with Orphans

Multi award winning twin brothers, Peter and Paul Okoye of the P-Square fame added another year on Wednesday November 18th. Unlike last year that a party was held for them at an urbane club in Lagos , they decided to celebrate this year’s in an orphanage home in Lagos .
The day actually served as a special day for the brothers because it gave them the opportunity to reflect on their lives whilst appreciating God for where he has brought them so far. Right from the days they slept in Howie T’ DJ store, renting their own apartment in Ilupeju, Lagos , Moving to another apartment in Omole Phase 1 and about completing their own house in the same Omole Estate.
The brothers have no doubt come a long way. The manifestation of what they are today started at St. Murumba College in Jos. They started as dancers with the group Smooth Criminals and they mainly danced and mimed to M.C Hammer, Michael Jackson and Bobby Brown’s songs. The group existed for five years before breaking up leaving Peter, Paul, Michael and Melvin. The four of them later formed another group known as MMPP. The group broke up after few years of existence and Peter and Paul stuck together. Today, the rest is history.
The group marked their birthday with the orphans at the Little Saints Orphanage in Akowonjo, Egbeda - Lagos . They really had a good time with the children.
According to the brothers, the reason why they decided to celebrate their birthday at the orphanage was that they couldn’t have thought of a better way of celebrating it. “We couldn’t think of a better way o celebrate than with these children who have been deprived of the love and warmth they could have received at a point in time but for fate. They see us only on TV, but we would like to connect with these kids one way or the other. We’ve had too many birthday parties in the past and so thought to do something different. It was after much thinking we decided there was no better way to celebrate our birthday but to give back to the society. We are here to have fun and relate with the children, so for us, it’s not just about music and making money, it’s showing the other side of us which shows we really care for those around us even the less privileged”.

EFIZZI TAKES OVER PRODUCTION OF SOUNDS IN NIGERIA

One of Nigeria’s leading production outfits since 1990, Efizzi Worldwide Entertainment that specializes in event support in terms of providing crisp and distinct sound devoid of distortion, owned by Mr. Collins Akpapunam, a graduate of the prestigious University of Maryland in the United States of America with a Bsc. in Journalism has finally taken over the production of sounds in Nigeria.
He has been contracted to install state of the art sounds at various hangouts all over the country. One of them is the new Do It All Club in Owerri owned by Macdees Usondo, the former owner of the defunct Do It Club in Lagos . He has contracted Efizzi to install state of the art sounds in the new club. Efizzi is also in charge of entertainment at Ember Creek, another upscale hangout in Ikoyi, Lagos from now till January 2010. The company just completed the installation of sound system at the ultra modern Red Lounge belonging to King Size in Oregun, Lagos . Efizzi will also install state of the art equipments at Reeds Bar in Ikoyi, Lagos before the end of the year and many others.
At the government level, the Ondo State Government has contracted him to handle the sound for this year’s Ekimogun Annual Cultural Festival. The contract includes providing
P.A.system of 20,000.00Watts for the festival. Efizzi will also cover the festival audio visually and turn it into a documentary for the state government to use as a marketing tool to seek sponsorship for the festival. In addition, the company will also provide fireworks for the festival.
The same company recently completed the installation of sound enhancement and
acoustic treatment for the newly completed multi-million naira kwara State
Government Banquet Hall. With all this and more in his kitty, there is no gain saying in it that Efizzi has taken over the production of sounds in Nigeria .
In the past, Efizzi Entertainment has done major concerts involving bands like Femi Kuti, Asa, D’Banj, KWAM 1, King Sunny Ade and so many others. The company had handled sounds for different companies such as Unilever, Virgin Nigeria, MTN, Lagos Polo Club, Toyota, Eco Bank, Zenith Bank, Oando, among many others. It was the same company that supplied PA system (40,000watts output) at the Shell Camp in Port Harcourt when Senegalese American Pop Sensation, Akon, came to the country during the Naija Live concert. The same company did the fireworks at the 70th birthday party of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the 55th birthday celebration of former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Inauguration ceremony of the Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency, Bukola Saraki and so many others. This company has no doubt paid their dues in the industry when it comes to the production of sounds.

NICO GRAVITY ATTACKS TIMAYA AGAIN

As if the first single he released to attack the acclaimed Egberi Papa One of Bayelsa, Timaya, is not enough, controversial act, Nico Gravity has launched another attack on the self styled dancehall act. This time around he took him to the cleaners.
Nico performed the song to a major gathering for the very first time at the Bachelor’s Eve of the newest groom in town, Nigga Raw on Thursday October 30th. From all indications, the audience seemingly enjoyed every bit of it because they were all wining their waists to the rhythm and melody of the song. The new song, which is the seventh track on his new album released on Saturday October 30th, is titled ‘I Won Finish Timaya (Season Two). According to the act, the reason why he did the song is to further teach the artiste the act of humility and to stop being controversial. “He is too full of himself and I guess that is why he is always involved in one controversy or the other. All am just trying to do is advise him”, Nico said.
The new album is made up of 11 tracks and it was released by Hyprodrum

I WILL RELEASE MY ALBUM THIS YEAR -Ego

After keeping her fans waiting for so many years, it seems all is now set for multi-talented singer, Ego Ogbaro to release her debut album. She revealed this to this blog few days back.
Lots of people had thought she would immediately release her debut album after she called it quits with the masked musician Lagbaja’s band, but she did nothing of such. Instead, she formed her own bandand they have been performing in so many high octane functions.
There is no doubt that life has been so good to the vocal gymnast. Even without an album or a popular song on air to her credit, she became a Globacom ambassador. Few weeks back in Lagos, she did her white wedding, which had lots of the stakeholders in the entertainment industry in attendance. There is no doubt that Ego has established herself as a musician to cut in the country.
Speaking with her on on-coming album few days back, she said everything is almost ready and it will definitely be released before the end of the year. “My album is almost ready and it will be released before the end of the year by the special grace of God. At the moment, I may not be able to say the number of tracks or the songs that will be on the album but we are doing everything possible to make it worth its salt”, Ego said

Cartiair On The Move

Fast rising rapper, Cartiar, shot two videos from his on-coming album last week in Lagos. The shoot was for both Owo Atiswagger Remix and Perfect Girl. His colleagues’ likeTerry Tha Rapman, Gino, Dagrin, Eva, Waje, Blaize, and Kel were part of the video. Smoke machines, fast cars, exotic wines, expensive jewelries and beautiful ladies characterized the video shoot. Clarence Peters, the director of the video promised that the video would be ready in some week’s time. Mr Lanre Afini, the CEO of Magic records said that the shoot of the videos was strategic, as the videos are expected to drop along with the full-length album in November. “We are doing all we can to make sure we have a tight package for Cartiair. There has been a lot of pressure from his fans and industry watchers to release the album, which had been ready for a while, but we are taking our time to sort out all logistics”, Lanre said.

THE RAP GOSPEL ACCCORDING TO OBJAZZ

Rap music in Nigeria has definitely changed from what it used to be some few years back. It is now an established fact in Nigeria that a rap artiste can be commercially accepted. Objazz is one of the most likely rappers to take over the rap game soon.
Born Obinna Eze – Ajoku in Yaba Town of Lagos State, Objazz grew up in Festac Town listening to a lot of Hip-hop acts such as Nas, The Fugees, Redman, T-Bone and others while also listening to Jazz recordings of Kirk Whalum, George Benson and Victor Wooten. A combination of the effects of these extremes is responsible for all the sound in-between that has become Objazz’s trademark.
As if the industry is about to start reckoning with him, he was adjudged the best artiste of the week on Inspiration FM in Lagos last week. This is not a mean feat considering the caliber of artistes that have been pronounced the best artiste of the week in the past. This has definitely exposed his songs to more radio listeners because his songs were the most played on air last week on the station with an interview to cap it all.
Before his latest single, One More Chance, he had released other songs like Mass Hysteria, Keep Running, Gbasibe and Carry Go. One More Chance was released in August 2009 and has been getting heavy rotation both locally and internationally including online radio stations. It’s another motivational track that clearly revealed the versatility of the artiste in rap music. His self-titled album that will soon be released features vocal samples from Sly n Robbie, Bob Marley and some patois chants.
Objazz has performed on different stages with the likes of D’banj, P Square, Timaya, 9ice, Styl-Plus and many other popular Nigerian acts. He had also served as keyboardist and bass guitarist for live performances of various artists. His performances indeed are a site to behold due to his excellent stagecrafts. Objazz is signed to ‘Wavehouse Recordings’.

KING ROKAN SET TO BREAK INTO NAIJA HIP HOP SCENE

Richard Oluwarokanmi Adekola a.k.a King Rokan, is an African percussionist, songwriter, arranger and singer. He’s based in Atlanta-Georgia and widely known to the large Nigerian communities in America as Rokan, the Oluaye of Georgia. A title bestowed on him in 2003 by the visiting King of Fuji music worldwide-K1 De Ultimate.
King Rokan plays a blend of Juju, Gospel and Fuji. He has released two albums in the US.
While holidaying in Nigeria last year December, he fell in love with the ubiquitous Naija hip hop sound, thus, he realized the production talent of super producer Puffy T, and recorded some singles featuring some upcoming acts. Pleased with his newest experimentation with hip hop, Rokan jetted back to his base in US to work more on some new hip hop materials but without alienating the core African beats and vocal styling of Juju, Gospel and Fuji.
The good news is, from November till early next year, King Rokan, will be releasing, promoting and performing his newly recorded materials in Nigeria featuring some of our upcoming talented home boys,

RYHMZO PLEADS NOT GUILTY

Self-styled reggae artiste, Rhymzo, is currently facing accusations from some of his colleagues in the industry. He had been accused of taking credit for a song that didn’t belong to him.
The song in question is ‘Satisfy Me’ which was recorded in far away Austria. The video was also shot in Austria. Information made available to Glitz Stage revealed that the original owner of the song is Trigger, a Nigerian who is one of the three artistes that featured in the song as well.
Trigger had accused Ryhmzo for claiming the right to the song. According to him, he invited Rhymzo to Austria for the recording of the song after which he arranged for the shooting of the video there in Austria. “ I was surprised when I heard the story in Austria that Rhymzo was claiming the right to my song. I called him afterwards but he denied anything of such. It’s part of the reasons I decided to come to Nigeria to promote my song”, he said.
This blog was later informed that the video Rhymzo brought to Nigeria was not the final edit copy. They even accused him of remixing the song without seeking for the right to do so. They are currently ready to take up the case because they all signed a contract before the song was recorded.
In a swift reaction, Ryhmzo denied the allegation. He said he never laid claims to the songs.

WHEN DJ JIMMY JATT CELEBRATED BIRTHDAY IN KIRIKIRI

The silent and boring life in Maximum Kirikiri Prison in Lagos came to life on Thursday October 15th 2009, which coincided with Nigeria’s number one disc jockey’s birthday, DJ Jimmy Jatt. Unknown to lots of people, the people behind bars know all the hit songs in town. They are sure-fire dancers.
DJ Jimmy had earlier made it known that he will be celebrating his birthday party behind bars but lots of people didn’t actually know what he meant. Jimmy sure brought the place alive. He was meant to be on the Wheels of Steel for about 15 minutes but they wouldn’t just allow him stop. They were so excited and they danced their hearts out. The most surprising thing is that they sang along all the popular hit songs churned out by Jimmy.

MAJEK FASHEK REJECTS OSHIOMOLE’S REHAB PLANS

Veteran reggae music act and multiple hits maker, Majekodunmi Fashakin popularly known as Majek Fashek has rejected the rehabilitation plans of his state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole towards his deteriorating and worrying health conditions.
In order to finally bring to rest the once robust singer’s health that now looks scrawny, the executive governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole through the ministry of health has laid out plans to save the life of the musician. Glitz gathered that the governor is not happy with the musician’s state of health.
The whole plan, which was supervised by the Honorable Commissioner of Edo State- Dr. Moses Momoh in the company of other specialists doctors started out well. In a bid to ascertain the cause and how his health started deteriorating, they asked him some questions in the first session, which he answered very well. But after this exercise, Majek disappeared into the thin air.
There are however clues that Majek has rejected the governor’s good plans for him based on the information made available to this blog. The gist is that he no longer gives a hoot about the rehab plans anymore and this has really become a source of serious concerns for his close friends and family members including the fans of the great singer.
The irony of this all, is that the marijuana that is fast killing the rainmaker crooner didn’t affect his talent. He even said in an interview that he smokes weed not marijuana

NMVA’09; WORLD CLASS AWARD WITHOUT CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP

With or without corporate sponsorship, NMVA 2009 rocked. The evening of November 1st, 2009 will remain fresh in the minds of those that attended the third consecutive edition of the premier Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA) at the Expo Center of Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos, Nigeria. Without unnecessary hype, the event lived up to its expectations.
Guests were welcomed to a green carpet reception reflective of the traditional Nigerian colour: green. The green carpet actually allowed them to familiarize and interact with members of the press while catching up with old peeps. The ushers were scrumptiously dressed in a green short gown that elicited cheers and admiration from the cross section of the guests as they welcomed them amidst smiles that re-assured them that they were in for a good show.
Whether you were inside the hall witnessing the main event or outside; you couldn’t have missed the show one bit because there was a gigantic screen that had been strategically positioned on the green carpet projecting the proceedings of the event. Unlike what is gradually becoming a norm in the industry starting an award like five hours behind the scheduled time, NMVA was on point. The green carpet started exactly as scheduled at 6PM while the main awards ceremony started by 7.44PM later that evening.
Everything about this year’s award was spectacular. Right from the luscious green carpet to the decoration of the main hall, the state of the art digital stage and the elaborate lightings, the multi-media screens, performances, the guests, the proceedings of the event and general coordination and every other thing were incredible. NMVA has scored the first in so many areas and they have made a statement with this year’s award by staging a world-class award without any major corporate sponsorship. It remains the only award ceremony this year that started at the exact time and made its judges known to the public. It is also on record that it is the only award ceremony that pioneered an online open ballot voting system in the continent of Africa. The website was powered by U.K based firm, Gobble Abba with other string of clients like Basketmouth, MI, Shine, Chocolate City amongst others.
The anchors of the outstanding award ceremony were Femi Aderibigbe popularly known as Kwame who is a veteran broadcaster, Bright Okpocha, a.k.a Basketmouth, a comic merchant and fast rising actress, Bariyah El James. The award ceremony started with the special rendition of the National anthem in a soulful manner by one of Nigeria’s gifted singers, Eva and it got her lots of ovation from the guests. Before the guests could recover from the charm of Eva, Nyore and her team of up and coming artistes, came on stage to perform the NMVA ’09 theme song. It was another great performance that got the organizers lots of ovation.
The guests were not aware that they were in for lots of surprises. Dr. Alban got on stage afterwards to the uttermost surprise of all to perform his evergreen hit song; It’s My Life. Lots of people could not hide their surprise to see him on stage. Dr. Alban? From where they wondered aloud! The truth of the matter is that he flew all the way from the United States of America to be part of the awards ceremony. He performed his hit song, It’s My Life to a live band and the guests sang along with him. Charly Boy later joined him on stage to perform their new collaboration. Some female dancers added spice to their performance. Flex a top dancer and Street Hood, this year’s winners of Malta Guiness Street Dance competition came on stage to mimic some dance steps of late Micheal Jackson along with some of his popular hits such as Smooth Criminal, Beat it, Thriller and Billie Jean after showing a specially produced documentary in tribute to him and his revolutionary contributions to the development of music videos globally.
There were so many good things to talk about at this year’s NMVA. Is it the performances, the induction of High Chief Raymond Dokpesi into the Hall of Fame, the presence of the Benue State Government or what? No wonder the organizers are still basking in the euphoria of the successful awards ceremony.
High Chief Raymond Dokpesi was the sole inductee into this year’s Hall of Fame. The likes of Cally Ikpe (NMVA Coordinator), Femi Aderibigbe (Kwame), Ayo Animashaun, Sola Fosudo, Kenny Saint Brown, Dayo Adeneye and Gbenga Adeyinka joined him on stage to receive the award after a special documentary on him and an awe-inspiring citation by Patrick Doyle. Some even said his induction was the high point of the event while to others, Ghanaian International act, Samini and Faze’s collaboration backed by Eboni band was the bomb—Splendid, Outstanding, Exceptional, awe-inspiring, marvelous, spectacular, stunning, Gawd! We are still looking for a word to describe it. Samini and Faze’s collaboration was indeed the bomb. No wonder he won the Best Live Performer award at this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) in Kenya.
The multiple award winning short black boys, MI, simply wowed the whole guests with his performance as well. He had the entire audience transfixed in a standing ovation throughout his performance; it was obvious that the guests wanted more. Another great performance was that of Wande Coal and Dr. Sid. The guests couldn’t have enough of them. They brought greetings from D’Banj and Don Jazzy. They pleaded that they would also have loved to be at the event but D’Banj was at that time shooting the video of one of his songs, Fall in Love in South Africa. Other great performances were from Bracket, Djinee and Benita. There is no doubt that NMVA ’09 rocked to the very foundation of the showbiz world.
Some of the guests at this year’s awards are T.W.O, Celestine & Emmanuel Babayaro, Mr. Audu Ahivili (Benue State SSG), Mr. Chiver Kaaver (Attorney General of Benue State), Honourable Edo, Mr. Dele Alake, Mr. Dele Abiodun, Jonas Agwu, Aduu Nuru and Ali Baba to mention a few.

9ICE JOINS SOFORTE

Award winning act and one of Nigeria’s best, Abolore Akande, a.k.a 9ice is definitely leaving no stone unturned towards the successful release of his 14 tracker sophomore album. In line with this vision, Soforte, Nigeria’s first automated distribution company, owned by Gbenga and Lara George will distribute his new album throughout the length and breadth of country.
For those who have not caught the bug, Soforte is the credible alternative to the marketing system operational in Alaba Internatinal Market. This time around, artistes will not get to be paid off with few millions of naira for an album that has taken them like two years or more to come up with. They will now earn royalties based on the volume of sales of their CDs.
In other developed countries of the world, artistes make most of their monies through album sales, which is why they are not at the mercy of event organizers or corporate bodies who they so desperately crave to perform at their concerts. What they earn from their album sales is expected to be enough to make them comfortable. This should further encourage the artistes to choose the shows they would perform at and at the appropriate price. Let’s assume that a Nigerian artiste sells a Million copies of his CDs, this would translate into multiples of millions of Naira with this new arrangement, let alone selling up to 5 Million copies.
9ice’s 14-tracker album that would be effectively distributed through the soforte network includes tracks like; Show Some Love featuring Nneka, Pete-Pete featuring Asa, Respect is Resiprocal, Bluetooth, Liquor, Gbamu-Gbamu, Charging Charger and others. The album has the production imprints of the likes of Terry G, ID Cabasa, Dr. Frabz and Cheephd. It is due out on November 29th -
The title of the new album is Tradition in Transition. The image on the front cover of the album jacket speaks volumes about the title of the album. 9ice wore a suit while facing a mirror and the image that reflected showed him in traditional attire. What an artistic way of expressing the album title; ‘Tradition in Transition?’
Ahead of the album release, Seun Apara learnt exclusively that the artiste is planning a release concert that will herald the release of the album in a very unique way. The concept will be actualized in a manner that has never been done before.

J-Martins Drops Sophomore

Another vibrant artiste and one of Nigeria’s most promising acts, J-Martins will be releasing his sophomore album tomorrow November 2nd few months after the lead single, Oyoyo, topped several charts.
In an exclusive listening session with Seun Apara, the artiste revealed that the recording of the new album had taken so much away from him financially. “I gave in my best during the recording of this album. I tried to express myself in different ways to show my versatility and also to prove that i am not a one hit artiste. There are songs for everybody on the album”, he said.
The album is made up of 10 tracks with songs like Oyoyo, Iva, Believe, Jupa, Change, Good or Bad Remix, Chameleon and others. It features acts like Phino, Vector, Jesse Jags, Ill Bliss, Bracket and Munachi Abi, former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria. J-Martins further showed his production prowess by producing all the songs on the album.
The album has a little bit of techno; crunk and his usual contemporary highlife music style. The track that has the techno beat might turn out to be a club banger if well promoted. Another interesting aspect of the album is Munachi Abi’s delivery on the track she featured on. She raps pretty well with so much dexterity. She is sure a fire lyricist.
The album will be release tomorrow by one of the marketers in Alaba International Marketers known as Blue Magic

Dagrin Finds Succor

Things are finally looking bright for Nigeria’s number one Yoruba rapper, Olaitan Olanipekun, a.k.a Dagrin. After several years of hustling and struggling to make ends meet, succor has finally come his way.
It seems like yesterday when he started his career professionally under Leo Records. He has flows that make every music enthusiast believe that he has what it takes to hold his own. However due to lack of experience and improper management by Leo Records, he couldn’t attain the very much-deserved height before his contract expired and he called it quits with the label.
Things were not all rosy at that point which can rightly be described as the second phase of his career. He was ejected from his official residence by the label and he started hustling to make ends meet. When music was not paying his bills, fate left him with no choice but to join the boys who sell cell phones in Computer Village in Ikeja Lagos; popularly referred to as floor boys. Things were really hard for me during that period but I thank God for where I’m now. I thank Him for the gift of music”, he told Seun Apara.
After the successful release of his sophomore album titled the CEO (Chief Executive Omota) on his own record label, Misofunyintele Entertainment, things are finally looking brighter for the artiste. Eldyne Records, same label that signed DJ Zeez has offered a helping hand to the artiste.
The management of Eldyne Records informed Glitz Stage about the deal last week and from the way they sounded, they were very excited about it. “We’ve signed Dagrin. The guy is now with us”. Those were the words from the management of Eldyne Records in an emotional outburst. As if Dagrin too couldn’t wait to reveal the deal to Glitz Stage, he said with all confidence. “I have signed a management deal with Eldyne Records”, he said amidst smiles. It is widely hoped that this partnership will witness considerable progress in all ramifications for both parties.

Two days after, precisely on October 20th, he thrilled another set of guests with his enlivening performance. He was meant to fly from London to Dublin for his performance but Pastor Taiwo Odukoya of Fountain of Life Church had to fly him to Nigeria to perform in his Discovery For Men Rally on October 25th. He was the only guest artiste. He used the opportunity of his presence in the country to finally seal his next release with Soforte, the new most credible alternative to music distribution in Nigeria.
He left the country on October 28th for Dublin as one of the artistes that performed in the Megafest show that had other acts like Midnight Crew, Mike Aremu and other Dublin based acts. On October 29th, he left a message on his facebook profile urging fans to pray for him. “I’m excited and expectant cos i,m going to be at the megafest concert tomorrow October 30th in dublin ireland. EFIZZI RECORDS DEBUTS WITH BLAZE

One of Nigeria’s leading production outfits since 1990, Efizzi Worldwide Entertainment that specializes in event support in terms of providing crisp and distinct sound devoid of distortion, owned by Mr. Collins Akpapunam, a graduate of the prestigious University of Maryland in the United States of America with a Bsc. in Journalism has finally delved into the record label business by the establishment of Efizzi Records.
The recent news filtering out from the company’s headquarters is the establishment of
its record label, Efizzi Rcords with a multi-million Naira recording studio in Lagos. Who else can do better than Efizzi in the production of sound? The label has signed one of Nigeria’s fastest rising artistes, Bubble Blaze, blessed with a deep throaty voice synonymous with two famous American rappers- DMX and Jarule. He sings so effortlessly that his delivery cannot be overlooked. WHY OUR LANDLORD WANTS US OUT - P-SQUARE

The lingering mêlée involving Peter and Paul Okoye with their brother and manager, Jude Okoye and the owner of the property in which they currentltly reside in Omole Estate, Phase 1, Lagos is gradually degenerating into a scenario of shame with accusations and counter accusations flying like missiles from both camps. The two parties held a press conference concurrently in Lagos last week to elucidate the genesis of the squabble.
It will be recalled that late last year, P-Square’s landlord, Chief L Charles Nwangwa, the Chairman/CEO of Zedex Petroleum Nig. Ltd. staged a press conference in Lagos to intimate the public on the damages the Okoye brothers had done to his property by breaking a concrete wall dividing the two rooms in the BQ and converted it into a musical studio without his consent. He revealed then that the most annoying thing they did that got him really upset was lying to the media that they had bought the house. He described it as a shameful and cut-price hype on the part of the artiste. The Okoye brothers however maintained sealed lips then.
The ruckus later re-generated few days back when the landlord called a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday September 29th and claimed that the Okoye brothers’ squad attacked him on Monday September 28th when he had gone to dispatch the quit notice that is expected to take effect from October 1st, to them based on his lawyer’s advice. “…one guy assaulted me in the presence of witnesses and a crowd had begun to gather when Jude finally appeared. I managed to free myself from the clutches of the guy that was holding me and I gave the letter to Jude which he read and my efforts to make him sign the acknowledgement earned me more battering. I immediately reported the case to the police”. These and many more the landlord told Journalists present at the conference after which he took them to the house but the Okoye brothers refused them entry.
The next day which was Wednesday September 30th, P-Square organized their own emergency press conference at their residence where they put in plain words their own part of the story to the media. They revealed that the man had never been beaten before like he publicly professed. “We actually started on a good note before things went sore between us. He was a constant feature in the same studio he is now complaining about. We started having disagreements when he began bringing people to us to sign on our label and we told him we were not ready for that now. He later brought his son and we told him the same thing. Another time he said he wanted to take up the marketing of our albums and we also refused. That was how we fell out and he started saying derogatory things about us. He called a press conference last year but we refused to comment. What further escalated the issue was his demand on a percentage from our album sales because we have a recording studio inside the compound”, Jude Okoye said.
Peter and Paul have for a long time distanced themselves from this feud. They claimed that they actually didn’t interact much with the landlord because all businesses were transacted between him and Jude. The Okoyes later revealed that the original agreement was to buy the house from the landlord but they abandoned the plan to commence the building of their own house inside the same estate when the landlord kept increasing the price whenever they approached him with the subject matter. Journalists present at the press conference in their house were later taken on an inspection to the new site where the construction of the house is currently going on. Those present affirmed that it was magnificent.

However, the landlord said he has brought them before the court of public opinion to judge the case between him and the Okoye brothers. He also appealed to their mum to help salvage the situation but the Okoye brothers maintained that they are unperturbed by his actions. Their house rent expires next year
Meanwhile, they revealed that their new album has sold a million copies since its release.

Olu Maintain Denies Puffy T

One of Nigeria’s most popular acts, Olumide Adegbulu popularly known as Olu Maintain has finally come out to dismiss the insinuations that Puffy T remains his favorite producer having produced the hit single that re-launched him into the music industry, Yahoozee. Olu had in a swift reaction revealed his favourite producer.
His name is TY Tayo Adeyemi a.k.a Snoop. He produced 90% of the songs on Olu Maintain’s and Kentro Crew’s new album titled With All Due Respect. According to Olu, he will remain his best producer ever. “TY Tayo Adeyemi a. k. a Snoop, we owe this album to you. You are my best producer” . These were the words on the jacket of his new album.
The new album contains 21 tracks with numbers like Arab Money, Tomato, Mama, Speechless, Takerewa, Legends, Keeping Faith and others. After the Yahooze album, lots of people had wondered if he would be able to replicate the success and mileage he got from the Yahooze album with his sophomore but time will tell.

BIGIANO DENIES RAPE SCANDAL

Rave act, Ebenezer Babalola popularly known as Bigiano has watched his hands off of the rape scandal currently dotting his image. He has denied having any knowledge of such ignominious incident.
Glitz Stage gathered that the nauseating drama which allegedly involved Bigiano and Olamide, the son of Oyo State Governor with two young ambitious ladies was staged in the ancient city of Ibadan few weeks back. Their arrangement with the ladies was to have fun with them differently with a handsome reward but the story later changed in the middle of the night when they informed the ladies of their intentions to exchange them for another round of fun. The ladies refused but it was alleged that they forcefully had their way.
Glitz Stage later spoke to Bigiano on the incident and he was confused as to where such degrading story filtered from. “I don’t think I need this kind of negative press for my brand right now. I don’t know why people just like denting people’s image. I’ve not even been to Ibadan for a while now not to talk of raping a girl. Why would I even rape a girl? I don’t think I should find it very difficult to approach any lady I have a soft spot for in a responsible manner. They should leave me alone and let me concentrate on my career”, he said.
Bigiano is currently one of Nigeria’s most sought after artistes. His hit song, Shayo, had won him lots of fans at home and abroad including two awards at the last Soundcity Music Video Awards (SMVA). He was formerly one of the three members of the defunct group, Tripple B.

THE STORY OF DAGRIN

Lots of people might not be aware that Dagrin was a phenomenon at the busy computer village in Ikeja, Lagos as a phone vendor after the release of his first album. Things went really bad then and he needed to survive.
Born Olanipekun Olaitan, he chose Dagrin as his stage name at the off shoot of his career. He got signed to a new label, Leo Entertainment, in 2006 where he released his debut album. He was with the label until last year when he called it quits. “I left after my contract expired and my first album didn’t even enjoy good promotion”, said Dagrin. `
After his exit from Leo, he faced serious financial challenges. He forfeited the apartment that had been given to him by his label within their office premises in Magodo and he struggled to get a place of his own. Money was coming from no where and he needed to survive. After so many options of what to do for a while to keep body and soul together, he chose to trade phones at the computer village in Lagos. He started making little profits and he felt the need to go back to his music career.
He started by doing different collaborations with some artistes to keep the promo going and as fate would have it, it paid off. Some of them are; YQ, Sheyman, Bigiano, Lala and so many others. He later started recording his own songs and released a single titled Pon Pon Pon, a rap song with heavy punch lines. The song even got him a nomination at the last Hip-Hop World Awards.
Lots of people feel he will do well if raps in English because of his punch lines but he is not thinking in that direction. “I decided to rap in Yoruba because I understand it better than English. It is not that I can’t do English rap but I want to represent my origin and I rap in my mother tongue. I respect my colleagues that rap in English too”, Dagrin said.
His new album, a 10 tracker titled the Chief Executive Omota (CEO) is about two months old now in the market. It has great tracks like Ghetto Dream, Pon Pon Pon, Kondo, What They Want, Make Doe and Others. The album which featured acts like Omawumi, T Frizzle, E Jay, Sossick, Dark Poet and Isolate has the production imprints of Dr Frabz, Sossick, T Frizzle and SAS.
He now has his own entertainment Outfit titled Missofunyin Entertainment and explained why he called himself the Chief Executive Omota ( Omota is a street boy in the local parlance) instead of Chief Executive Officer. “I decided to call myself Chief Executive

NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE, HOW GOD SAVED PAUL PLAY’S LIFE

How else can one describe the case of someone that passed out on the hospital bed? Someone that urinated blood incessantly and doctors certified hale and hearty? He even saw his late father in this near death experience. How else can one describe it other than to appreciate God for saving the dear life of one of Nigeria ’s most gifted musicians?
He left Nigeria like any other Nigerian act to South-Africa on a mission to shoot his new video, Delicious, which is currently airing on different cable TV stations across the world. He was hale and hearty with no signs of illness till after the shooting of the video before the strange occurrence. He was in the house of Kunle Ayo, a Nigerian Jazz artiste in South-Africa when symptoms of the terminal ailment began manifesting. He went to the toilet and he found it very difficult to urinate. Suddenly, blood started coming out from his urinary organ and he immediately raised alarm to alert Kunle of his predicament. Without wasting much time, they rushed to the hospital.
“Immediately the blood started rushing out of my urinary organ like a loose tap with blood clots, my blood pressure began to rise. I was shocked and anxious because I didn’t understand what was happening to me. All of a sudden, I was feeling week and I couldn’t move. I sat down on the bathroom floor and called Kunle to help me that I didn’t know what was wrong with me. He quickly put me in his car and we headed for the hospital. Inside the car, I was already thinking If I was going to die because I was feeling so weak”, Paul began narrating the sad experience.
When they got to the hospital, he was taken to the Casualty Department and they conducted series of tests on him including blood and urine tests. Even when they told him that they needed to take his urine, it was blood that came out. The doctor immediately sensed that there was something wrong and he did another series of test.
“At this point, I was scared and paranoid. I didn’t understand what was going on anymore. I started communicating with God to save my life because every thought in this world started coming to my head”, Paul continued his experience
When the doctor finally re-appeared, he said there was nothing wrong. He assured him that it was an infection and that led to t the urination of blood. He heaved a sign a relief thanking God that it wasn’t actually a serious problem. The doctor gave him series of drugs to cure the anomaly and they left the hospital believing that the drug would work. He excused himself during the recording session between him and kunle to urinate and he encountered blood again. He called the hospital and the doctors said the blood would continue to come out but assured him that the drug would get rid of it after three days. Three days after, the situation remained the same. At this point, he knew something was really wrong somewhere.
“It was in the night and I went to the hospital again. My blood pressure started rising again. I was loosing my breath and almost fainting. When we got to the hospital, we met another doctor but it was a black man this time around. He was actually not taking it easy on me like the former doctor. He asked me different questions if I had bathed in the river before and all sorts. He messed me up completely. By the time he checked my blood pressure, it was 201. He too conducted another series of tests and the result showed that nothing was wrong with me. He said it was a bladder infection and he asked me to drink lots of water but it kept getting worse. At this point, my heart was beating faster. Am I going to die”? He asked himself rhetorically
They immediately had a change of plan. Since the hospital kept giving them same results, someone suggested that they should try another hospital. At this point, there were not even thinking about the cost anymore but for Paul to get better. Kunle really stood by him. Whenever Paul urinate blood, he mopped up the whole place and took him up again encouraging him saying that he would not die. They went to the private department of a General Hospital and they conducted the same series of tests and they told him there was nothing wrong with him.
“I was given the same set of drugs. They insisted that there was nothing wrong with me but within me I knew all was not well within these two weeks. I was dying inside. I will be in a room and it will look as if it was spinning around. The doctor said I should go and try the drug again for two days. I went through another two days of pains and anxiety. After the two days lapsed, I told Kunle am not getting better that he should call the Nigerian doctor in Pretoria we sent the results of the tests to him. He also insisted that there was nothing wrong with me but when I stood my ground that I was not feeling fine, he directed me to another Nigerian doctor known as Dr. Adebisi”.
When they finally saw Dr. Adebisi, he conducted a sonar test which revealed that Paul had an enlarged kidney. He told him immediately that there was no other solution than to remove it because the tumour was big. It was a cancerous tumour on the top of the kidney.
“It hit me like a rock when I heard surgery. I have never experienced it in my entire life. I told God immediately that it wasn’t His plans for me. Why are all these happening to me?” he queried
The voice of Dr. Adebisi brought him back to reality. He told him it was a big operation but it just had to be done. Paul started calling his loved ones at home in Nigeria including his pastor and told them about his predicament. He called his wife to come over to South-Africa but he didn’t disclose the reason why. He needed support and prayers. After getting everything needed for the operation ready, the doctor conducted another test on him to confirm if the tumour had not spread. The result actually showed that it had not. At this point, he was about to be wheeled into the theatre for the operation. Right there on the bed, he started praying to God making different covenants with Him. His wife was looking at him with obvious fear as he was about to be wheeled into the theatre. She was not even sure if she would see her husband again. Paul was busy praying and bargaining with God asking for a second chance. To the utter most surprise of the people present around him, he started singing his classic song, ‘Mosorire o eleda mi mo dupe o……
“I was scared but at the same time, I believed I was not going to die. Three different pastors called me before the operation and told me that God said I was not going to die. One of them told me boldly and emphatically that God would do the operation himself. While I was afraid of death, I was mourning Micheal Jackson. As the surgeons who were to perform the operation were still introducing themselves to me, I passed out. Before I knew it, I was back to life again. It was like a second but it was actually five hours. The first words that came out of my mouth were glory be to God”. (He broke down in tears)
After the operation, he was wheeled back to the ward. Everything remained normal until the second day when his blood pressure started going down and his body was getting extremely cold.
“At this point, I was passing out. I was loosing grip on life and I told my wife that am going, am going, my body is getting cold. Yeah! I’m dying, call the doctor, call the doctor, call the nurse, etc. Before I knew it, I passed out. I saw a man and my late father in one of my dreams. The man told me consistently that I wouldn’t make it back to Lagos but I kept saying that I would make it. He said that I should forget about those intercessions on my behalf that I was still not going to make it back to Lagos . My late father then appeared and told me that if I showed my face now, God would not be happy. That simply meant I was going to hell. It was the rush of oxygen in my nose that brought me back to life”.
During this emotion laden interview, Paul recalled that the occurrences started when he began having some funny dreams. Someone would give him water in the dream and stand in front of him insisting he must drink it.
“Some people might call these mere hallucinations, but it was real. My mouth would be widely opened to drink the water then I would suddenly wake up. Sometimes they would bring food for me in the dream to eat”, he recalled.
After the successful operation, the doctor told him that he needed to take the ICU stating that he reacted to some kind of infection which might have been there before the operation but reared its head again after the operation. There was blood transfusion because he had lost lots of blood including medication for two days.
He called his pastor as usual and told him what he was going through and as expected, prayers commenced again in earnest. He also instructed his manager to put it on the free social networking website; facebook so that his fans could also pray for him because he needed more prayers. Strange things were happening to him while he was recovering. The physiotherapist also came and told him he needed to work on his lungs so that it could start functioning normally again. Anything might have happened to it during the operation because they too were not ready to take any chances. During this period, he couldn’t move his body. They bathed him for two days on the bed. The physiotherapist who was coming everyday to work on his lungs encouraged him to stand up the third day and he did.
When he taught everything was okay, the doctor came to him again and told him that there was a problem. What problem again he queried? This time, it was his blood level. His blood was not building. He picked his phone again and called his pastors to pray for him that he his blood level was low. After that, he picked up his bible and he began to read and pray. He said there was a particular white lady that was looking at him as he was praying probably wondering what was wrong with him. Paul described her as one on the white folks that didn’t believe in Christianity.
“I hear about spiritual attacks here and there but this was my very first experience. I really appreciate God for using that moment to reveal his mighty power to me. One morning, the doctor came to me and told me that my blood level was now perfect. I was happy and gave praises to the lord. The lord used that opportunity to reveal to me that there is indeed no friend like him”
During his trying period, Paul said those he thought were his very good friends deserted him. They stopped picking his calls. He was surprised because these were the same people he spent nights together with in their different houses. In all, some friends and good loving Nigerians still stood by him. He was full of thanks to them and all his fans that prayed for him.
“My predicament allowed me to see clearly who my friends are. I can now remove the shaft from the wheat. People who were not even so close to me were very supportive. I just want to use this opportunity to thank all Nigerians that prayed for me and those who stood by me during the incident. I’m grateful to all of them. It was because of their love that I’m still alive”
Somebody later called me from Nigeria and said that a particular newspaper reported that I was down with cancer in South-Africa. I was surprised. I wondered how the story leaked to the press. But I got to understand that a golden fish can’t hide. What I was actually happy about then was that the operation was already concluded before the rumour spread in the papers.
One of the vows he made with God is to release a gospel album every year to the glory of his holy name. He said he doesn’t care if it sells or not. He even composed a gospel song on his hospital bed which is the first track to be recorded on the gospel album coming out before the end of the year.
“I actually told God to give me a second chance. While discussing with him, I reminded him to the popular soccer game where there are first and second halves. I then told him that I needed to play the second half of my life after all I’m Paul Play. I told him I needed to play again”.
Some of the lessons he learnt from these near death experience is that nothing is forever and that salvation can’t be preached only on the pulpits. “If you want to preach salvation, look for those who have near death experiences. If the person shares his experience with them, they will be able to decide if they want to go to heaven or hell”, Paul said. The thought that he would go to hell if he died scared the life out of him. He has now made up his mind to stick with God in any situation he may find himself.
“Whether am rich or poor, happy or sad, I have made up my mind to always seek the face of the lord. The bible says that; what shall it profit a man if he gained the whole world and looses his soul. This life we are living is not real. We are only passing through it. This life is just a bus stop. People might call it stupid but this is the way I see life now. And most importantly, there is no friend like God. While on the hospital bed, a tall man sat on my bed. He was as tall as heaven. His foot was on the ground and his head was touching heaven. A bright light on his head brightened the whole environment. He was shining. He didn’t talk but he was beckoning to me to stand up. God! I saw Him. I saw Him. He is real. God is real.
The testimony of Paul Play is such a mind blowing one capable of bringing anyone close to tears. His trip to South Africa was to shoot a music video and the unexpected happened. He said his new found love won’t in any way disturb his musical career. Since he is an R&B artiste, he can continue with his love songs. After all, we all value love.
